World Art Exposition brings global art community to California

Artists from around the world gather around World Art Expo Director Jojo Marengo (seated in center).

If you always wanted to meet some of the world’s leading contemporary artists and see their original works of art on display, now is your chance. The 2009 World Art Exposition will take place June 7 to 14 in multiple locations throughout Orange County.

The festivities will begin with the opening of a solo show with nearly fifty works by world renowned artist Michael Cheval at the Miranda Gallery in Laguna Beach on Saturday, June 7. Cheval, based in New York, is looking forward to a new show in California. Speaking by phone from New York, he observed “I am based in New York, but have more clients in California and Florida now. There is greater acceptance of surrealism and figurative art there. In New York, tastes are set by curators and critics and there is more emphasis on what is fashionable than what is good art.”

Many artists agree. Five hundred are coming from all over the world to display their talents at the event. Previews of their work online provide a glimpse of the exceptional variety that awaits visitors:

-- Danish painter Lars Bjerre depicts contemporary living with caricatures.
-- Denver artist Tamera Seevers makes intricate sculptures from goose and ostrich eggs.
-- Russian contemporary artist Sergei Aparin creates visual fantasies in color on canvas.
-- Peruvian Carmen Montoya Diaz Del Olmo highlights the beauty of nature with a distinctive Latin American flair.

A total of 43 countries will be represented, making this the largest international art exposition that has taken place in Southern California. If you time your visit for June 12, you can also attend the awards ceremony for the World Masters of the Arts at the Fullerton Marriott Hotel.

You can also hear Michael Cheval and other leading experts on today’s art market at a special presentation Saturday, June 13 sponsored by the World Art Foundation.

World Art Foundation Masters Award Dinner Success
June 15th, 2009 - 08:32 PM

The World Art Foundation
Awards Dinner 2009...Success!

Zoltan Krizsan was judged by his peers.

The doors of opportunity have just begun for this young artist. Without the Founder of World Art Foundation Jojo Marengo and co-founder Antoine Marengo none of this would have been possible...
Held in Fullerton California at the Marriott Hotel. Ron Hust General Manager is the hospitality master. Thank you for your most professional and warm welcome. We hobnobbed with CEOS of Marriott at the pool party and were welcomed with such care.Thank you.

.Our wonderful gathering began with the meet and greet the masters and master elites at the roundtable at the Marriott. Imagine if you could, you an upcoming, emerging artist sitting at a roundtable with Master Elite Michael Cheval, Eser Afacan,Octavian Floresecu, Dij-On,Sergey Aparin, Yuri Yurov ? That my friend is the magnitude of what Jojo Marengo fasclitated! The three hour sessions were intimate, professional and most energizing and stimulationg conversations you would ever have been able to experience. If you would have attended, you would have had an opprtunity to actually sit next to a master elite. Seating was not assigned. I had the opportunity to sit next to a master elite for all the sessions.

Wow. What an experience. If you are an emergimg artist. If you are an established artist, the benefits out way the time, the energy and effort it took to be there. The benefit my nephew Zoltan Krizsan received out weighs what journey it took for him to get where he is today. My correspondence with WAF began with Antoine Marengo. Eight months of emailing, and networking could not have happened without Antoine Marengo.Zoltan Krizsan flew around the world, shipped one thousand pounds of art, to get to the World Art Foundation and entered a competition for the World Art Foundation Masters award. Zoltan won that Award!

A speaker at the Fullerton Museum, Joe Gordon of Miranda Galleries attended the functions and was most admirable in selecting artists from this exhibit and signing talent to his galleries. Opportunities knocked on every potential door. Networking, and most of all getting to know your fellow artists. As for myself, Dr.Evi Yes, I may talk a lot, But I left Fullerton with a new family. Jojo, Antoine and all the Marengos are what the American family is about. Jojo's lovely sister hosted a pool party in her lovely home in Orange County. Does it get any better than that? What if I said yes? Not only did we enjoy homemade middle eastern cuisine, we even enjoyed the fireworks show at Disneyland in the horizon watching the sunset, yes, with the master elites! Wish you were there? Me too.

I am saving the best for last. The artists who submitted their work, their work were displayed at the lovely gallery at the WAF Imperial Hwy Gallery. all hosted by Jojo Marengo.Thank you Jojo and your beautiful family. Your hospitality almost out weighed your charm, for your personality will only attract the positive, the enlightened, the elite. I am most proud to have been selected to be the secretary for WAF .Mrs Eric Hilton, Bibi Hilton sends her best wishes to you for your success for I do represent Bibi as her spiritual advisor and personal assistant.
As event coordinator, we look forward to meeting future members and know in your heart, it is the art that speaks from your soul. Follow your path, for your choices, do outline your lives. The World Art Foundation supports artists.Isn' t time you put your faith in WAF? Zoltan Krizsan did...In Love and in Light.

World Art Foundation Awards Dinner 2009
June 14th, 2009 - 10:19

Hi everyone,

This journey has been a world wind of activity. I was running late when I arrived so I had to check into the hotel run up to my room do a quick change and go down to the banquet room! I came down to the lobby and was lead to the dinner by some of the most amazing large beautifully done paintings. I knew right then I was in the right place. I was greeted by the charming Jojo Merango (the founder of the WAF). I introduced myself and he invited me to join him at his table. He introduced me to Krizsan Zoltan an artist from Hungary, and Duri from East Africa. His agent was there I only know her as Angela she is from New York. There was also a writer from In Motion filmz who was hired to video this event Dino Wells. He will be posting it on the World Art foundation website. www.worldartfoundation.org.

Jojo was a charming host introducing us and started interesting conversation. He had many duties that evening and left the table many times. I learned that Zoltan was a young and talented artist, very outgoing. He made me really appreciate the fact that I am American and I have freedom to paint and show my work as I please. Zoltan explained where he is from that if you are an artist in his country, the art is controlled by the Gov't. There are organizations that take the money for images and the artists have little recourse. He actually brought over 30 Plus paintings to share with us and let me tell you that he is a gifted and talented artist. He won a Master award. He struggled hard to get here. I just met this young man and I was so proud of him. He told us of how many people helped him to get the art here. It had to go through customs, and just the shipping was a trial for him. The term starving artist has a new meaning for me, let me tell you this man helped me to understand what that really means!

Jojo hosted the awards ceremony and the artists who recieved 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the masters category were all very deserving of their awards both artists at my table received them. I was fortunate to recieve an award in the Master category (Honorable mention). I am thrilled that the peole who were on the commitee thought my work was worth mentioning. When I look at the work of these people I feel as though I was so fortunate to be in this group. There were other awards given out for Emerging artits two of my new friends Ken Boe and Bob Cobb.

I met Michael Cheval and Octavian Florescu as well. These two artists are Master Elite artists and very talented. I almost felt like I should take my puppy butt and get back on the porch! When you are engaing in the global art world it is so different than in my little world. These artists are so smart, charming, and talented. I can not begin to explain how great their work is up close and personal. It is like stepping back into time and I am meeting the great masters. I know that sounds really corney but so, so true. I know, Kim Rahal humbled oh yes, my friends absolutely humbled. I have so much to learn from these people. I can't wait to share what came next......

World Art Expo speaker recommends many routes to success

June 19, 7:43 PM

Local gallery owner Joe Gordon, Chairman and CEO of Miranda Galleries in Laguna Beach recommends many routes to success to artists seeking to market their finished works. Speaking to artists from around the world at the World Art Expo last week, he pointed out the many advantages of selling at a gallery and also presented the artists with other choices.

“Galleries help attract clients,” says Gordon. “They build up client bases and also have group shows.” Historically, he points out, artists do not sell as well when they sell directly to collectors.

Online channels for selling art are changing the marketing of art, Gordon notes. “Online you can vary your style and the audience seems to want that kind of approach.”

Gordon also sees benefits to selling at auction. “A gavel price is an absolute validation of the value of a work.”

Regardless of how artists seek to sell their creations, Gordon advises that “credential building is important. You need to make yourself an artist of merit. It is important to make yourself unique and noticeable with techniques and passions that are distinctively yours.”

Global Art Fair showcases local talent

June 2, 4:41 PM

San Diego will be well represented when the World Art Exposition opens in neighboring Orange County this Sunday, June 7. LaJolla native Michael Newberry and San Diegan Judith D’Agostino will join the group of 500 artists from around the world who are exhibiting at the event. Both are recognized for their talents in plein air painting, a style which has won California international recognition.

D’Agostino will be exhibiting three plein air works, “Drifting Into Nightfall”, “Magic Sky”, and “Glow.” She is inspired by outdoor scenes she has seen in the area with the San Diego regional plein air painting group. Her favorites include LaJolla, Sunset Cliffs and Balboa Park.

Michael Newberry recently returned to the U.S. after living and painting in Europe. He is extremely enthusiastic about participating in the World Art Exposition. He praises World Art Foundation leader JoJo Marengo for his goal of building a lasting legacy. He also credits the organization and its flagship event, the World Art Expo, with addressing an important niche in the international exhibition calendar. “The World Art Foundation is meeting the needs of creative artists whose work is figurative and representative,” he observes. Many other institutions emphasize working with art that has already been created or classical styles which emulate it.

San Diego Fine Arts Examiner Max Donner will also represent the graphic design community at the show with his illustration “Spectrum of Motion.” This presentation of surfers moving deftly through waves of motion and light is one of many works designed to make learning about science and physics more interesting for teenagers.

It is easy to see that there will be art for every interest at the World Art Exposition. Judith D’Agostino sees the event as a timely opportunity. “This is a business,” she notes. “If you want your work to be seen, you have to do something about it.” D’Agostino is doing that very well, and will also exhibit at the regional show of the San Diego Art Institute which opens this Friday, June 5.

To see for yourself, start at the host hotel for the World Art Exposition, the Fullerton Marriott Hotel. Parking is adjacent to the hotel and is free for World Art Exposition visitors.

EMIGRA IN CALIFORNIA L’ARTE DI ALEMANNO
Mostra

Louis Laulhere, owner of La Vie En Rose where the birth of the World Art Expo 09 took place, joins the WAF's Board of advisors

Fifi's Best "Restaurateur Louis Laulhere Found His Way to OC Gradually"

Louis Laulhere is a person who has lived his life with a great deal of grace. When one speaks of a kind heart, his name comes to mind for me. It’s as if he was born to be in the restaurant industry, the service enterprise that begs like no other for people with the right attitude.

Louis was born in a small village named Pau in the southwest of France. He had his first encounter with commercial food world at the age of 13 when he went to work carrying bags of flour for the local baker, he became a kitchen helper at the Hotel de France in his hometown, and then, not long after that a busboy. He admits to feeling at home in the service profession almost immediately.

The next step was working at the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne, England. Louis felt at home and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. He and a good friend decided to go to Canada. Landing in Montreal with only a few dollars in his pocket, he found a job in one of the upscale hotels

He stayed in Canada until 1960, the year he went to New York, a city with plenty of French restaurants.  He then worked for Management Company for 13 years in New York and then transferred to Chicago to take on the task of directing all food operations at the John Hancook Center

After several years in Chicago, he moved to Las Vegas as vice president and manager of all food service at the convention center. He stayed a couple of years before being tapped to create a fine French restaurant in the new, prestigious Adolphus Hotel in Dallas, Texas. The result was The French Room. It was the restaurant that launched Dallas as a serious culinary city.

Everybody eventually visits California, don’t they? He did and met the Segerstroms, who introduced him to La Vie En Rose in Brea, the restaurant they’d built as a replica of a Normandy style farmhouse. Given his farm background and the comforting ambiance of this building, Louis knew he had walked into his dream. This was exactly the kind of restaurant he’d envisioned owning one day. The Segerstroms sold the restaurant to Louis and that is when I met him.

Dear Jojo,

In this day and age it not often we meet people that actually say what they do and then do what they say! You continually exceed my expectations.

Your commitment, diligence and passion are to be applauded.  You  complete all that you promise and much more!.  Your ‘Best of’ magazines are a very creative venue.  I greatly appreciate your features on my gallery and the many fine artists represented.
