And so it goes...

Jeff Sadowski

Jeff Sadowski was born in 1962 in Racine, a small town in Wisconsin, USA.

He was known locally for his fantastic art since his early childhood. His ability to draw unreal images from his imagination has been a gift. He always amazed his viewers with the unexpected. Relishing in any art project given out during his school years, he won numerous art awards.

Jeff left Wisconsin for the San Francisco Bay Area in 1982.
After growing up in such a small town his whole life, California was a whole new world full of inspiration. What a better place to absorb the culture and the art scene. While there, he had the pleasure to work with some of the best-known artists in the psychedelic and lowbrow art world.

In California, he worked at a major commercial art studio, where he soon assumed the role as lead artist and project manager. The studio specialized in huge stage sets for major recording artists, and special events, like a tour to America from the Dalai Lama.
It was there that he was able to learn hands on, all of the techniques necessary, to match the many different and challenging styles of art that he was requested to reproduce.
Jeff mastered the airbrush during his 20 years in the studio, and reproduced an estimated 3,000 6’x6’album covers.

In 2002 he returned to Wisconsin, taking with him all the experiences that the west coast had to offer. He has been committed to taking all that, and adding it to his own surrealistic vision for creating new and exciting works of art.

I could tell you that my work comes from my subconscious, and dreams. I could tell you that the true meaning of my symbolism makes more sense after I study the finished piece months down the road. I could tell you that I was drawing melting clocks before I heard of the term “surrealism.”

Would any of that matter when you observe my art? I don’t think so.

Pablo Picasso wrote. “Every child is an Artist. The problem is how to remain an artist, once we grow up.”
In the images I create, I still hold that childhood wonder of experiencing vast new parts of an unfamiliar neighborhood; the excitement of discovering unknown arenas for the very first time -- be they cheerful or slightly bent.

My paintings evolve from a deep vault of vague, fragmented images, icons, and events, dating back to those mysterious and wondrous years. My best subjects arise from memories and images that are bits and pieces in my mind -- ones I cannot identify. My paintings are intentionally unpredictable.

Does any of that still matter when you observe my art? I believe not.

I compare my creative process to the most direct of Surrealist techniques, “automatic writing”, but I produce images instead of words. My modus operandi is a blank sheet of paper and a number two pencil with absolutely no direction in mind.

Absorb from my art what you will. Immerse yourself in the images – perhaps rediscovering an unfamiliar and wondrous neighborhood you passed through once before. Let the art evoke a response, an emotion or memory, be it pleasant or negative, and maybe, just maybe… that is all that should matter.
